Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Favorite Photo of Your Father

It’s Saturday night and Randy at Genea-Musings has issued his weekly challenge to his readers. Tonight’s mission is to answer the following questions and then share our answers in our “own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook Status post”.

1) It's Father's Day in the USA [and Canada] on Sunday, so let's talk about our fathers.
 2) Show us your favorite photograph of your father - the one that shows him in the best light possible. Describe the occasion, the setting, and the people in the photograph.

Maurice Belair with son Raymond about 1982
Maurice Belair with son Raymond (about 1982)

This is one of my favorite photos of my Dad. He’s about 55 years old, while my brother Raymond is about 12, so the date is 1982 or 1983. I’m guessing by the scenery that the picture was taken here in British Columbia. It might even be the time that he, Mom and Raymond drove up to Gibsons, a small coastal town north of Vancouver. Gibsons is where the popular Canadian television show, The Beachcombers, was filmed, in the 1970s-1990s.

When I look at this photo, it reminds me of how much Dad loved his family: my brother, my sister and I, and our Mom. Dad loved being with us, being outdoors, and discovering new places. Heck, he even didn’t mind if he got lost and simply treated the detour as a new adventure.

Dad died in the spring of 1996 after another heart attack. It’s been 23 years since my family hasn’t celebrated Father’s Day with our Dad. Forever missed; forever loved.
